2008G (U13G)

Soccer has been such a huge part of my life. What I gained from this game is priceless. The friendships, the memories, the ups & downs, the life lessons, the heart aches, the endurance, the work outs, the community, the work ethic, the coaches, the sunshine, the injuries, the smiles, the tears, the mud, the rainy games, the teammates, the laughter, the passion, the championships, the wins, the losses, the shootouts, the tournaments…I could really go on forever. All of these things, for me, sum up what soccer means to me. I want to give this great game and all that goes with it to your daughter. Plain and simple, soccer is much more than the game itself and I can’t imagine my life without it.

I believe this is the greatest game in the world. I love to watch it, play it, and coach it. I want the girls to get better at soccer while having a blast doing it. I want them to form relationships and experiences that they will remember into adulthood. I want them to know what it is like to achieve greatness as a part of a team, to learn about cooperation, and to learn the fruit of hard work. My job is simply to make the process fun so that they learn not just soccer but life lessons as they become better soccer players individually as well as a team.

Just so you don't think I am all fluff, I am highly competitive. I absolutely hate to lose. I want each girl to hate to lose. And, I want to teach them to capture that emotion and use it to make them better. They have to learn to hold their head up even when they want to cry; to congratulate the other team even though they hurt. It is all about being competitive, doing our absolute best at coaching and playing, and learning to live with the result. In short, we have to learn to win graciously and to lose graciously. Hopefully, we get to work on winning graciously much more often than losing graciously.
